The name of the room come from those small and particular open spaces that characterize the historic center of the town: le gnostre. These are represented by cloisters or claustri (the etymology of the term gnostra can in fact be linked to the Latin claustrum : "Limited, fenced, closed, sheltered place"). It is therefore about spaces, squares and open spaces that alternate between a small street and the other, characterizing the old part of Gravina.
A typical example of gnostra is the Cavato di S. Andrea which owes its name to the rock church on site and which is located right next to our structure and which the room overlooks. From the cavato you enter directly to the medieval bastion, close to the famous aqueduct bridge.
